New research shows that eating pricey organic foods may not necessarily make you healthier. Studies that compared organic milk, meats, eggs, and produce to non-organic foods found that organic foods did not appear to have more vitamins or nutrients than non-organic.

Organic food was 30% less likely to have pesticides than non-organic food. But the FDA limits the amount of pesticides used in non-organic food and not all organic food was found to be 100% pesticide free.

“There are many different reasons why people choose organic. They may be concerned about animal welfare or the environment. They may do it for taste,” says researcher Crystal Smith-Spangler, MD, of Stanford University in California. “I didn’t find that nutrition is a major reason to choose organic foods.”

“When we’re talking about organic, it’s really the process, not the product. The process of organic farming is different than conventional farming, but that doesn’t mean that the food is bad or unsafe,” says Melissa Joy Dobbins, RD, MS, a spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Organic food can cost 50%-100% more than non-organic. If you choose to buy organic get the most out of your organic food dollar by purchasing the produce that is most susceptible to pesticide residue.

These twelve foods nicknamed the “Dirty Dozen” have been found to be the most contaminated with pesticides:

Dirty Dozen

1 Apples

10 Cucumbers

11 Blueberries – domestic

12 Potatoes

For convenience make a large batch of soup and measure into single serve portions for quick and easy meals for later. Most soups can be frozen for up to three months. And because of their high liquid content soups are very filling and satisfying.

One of the hardest parts of staying on the hCG diet is meal planning. If you always have something on hand that you can prepare quickly, you will be less likely to cheat on your diet! So try making a couple different soup recipes in bulk and freeze in single serve portions.

Here are a couple of my favorite hCG diet approved soup recipes:

Tomato Basil Soup

2 cups chicken or vegetable broth (or substitute 1 cup water for 1 cup broth)

2 cups chopped fresh tomatoes

3 ounces of tomato paste

4-6 leaves of fresh basil rolled and sliced

1-2 cloves garlic crushed and minced

2 tablespoons chopped onion

1 teaspoon garlic powder

¼ teaspoon dried oregano

Pinch of marjoram

Salt and black pepper to taste

Puree all ingredients in a food processor or blender. Pour into a saucepan and heat to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve hot, garnish with fresh basil leaves or parsley.

Makes 2 servings (1 vegetable)

Chicken and Cabbage Soup

100 grams chicken

Cabbage

2 cups chicken broth (or substitute 1 cup water for 1 cup broth)

2 tablespoons Bragg’s amino acids (optional)

2 cloves garlic crushed and minced

1 tablespoon chopped onion

¼ teaspoon thyme

¼ teaspoon rosemary

Cayenne to taste

Salt and pepper to taste

Combine chicken and spices in medium saucepan. Bring broth to a boil. Add cabbage. Reduce heat and simmer for a minimum of 30 minutes. Add additional water to broth as needed. Variations: change the spices and add fresh tarragon or turmeric. Add a ¼ lemon with rind to the broth and simmer for a rich lemon flavor.

Makes 1 serving (1 protein, 1 vegetable)

Which African Mango product is right for you?

We have two different plans that can be followed, depending on how many pounds you are looking to lose. If you’re looking to lose 20+ pounds, then African Mango 1200™ has been shown to be the best fit. You do not need to change your eating habits or exercise to lose weight on African Mango.

African Mango Lean™ will follow the same rules as African Mango 1200™; however, this is more suited for someone looking to shed 10 pounds or less.

For those looking to jump-start their diet, we recommend starting with African Mango Cleanse™ to help rid the body of toxins, and prepare the body for the upcoming diet. This will also help put your body in a state to burn additional fat.

The African Mango products come in capsule form and are used daily to help target body fat without side effects. Since the product is all natural, you can feel confident taking this supplement even on a long term basis.

Well-documented studies support using African Mango extract for weight loss, lowering cholesterol levels, and improving control of diabetes. African Mango lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol levels while raising HDL (good) cholesterol. It accomplishes this by binding to bile acid to transport cholesterol from your body.

According to an article published on FoxNews.com, studies have tied obesity to a higher chance of getting breast cancer – and worse outcomes in women who have already been diagnosed.

Published August 27, 2012 / Reuters

Among women who have been treated for breast cancer, heavier women are more likely to have their disease come back and more likely to die of cancer, according to a new study.

It’s common sense that sitting in front of computer and TV screens is making people fatter. A study out this week puts some precise numbers on it, though — and finds a surprisingly steady pattern across rich and poor countries.

That could be because certain hormones that are linked to body weight may also fuel tumor growth in the most common form of the disease, known as estrogen receptor-positive cancer.

Previous studies have tied obesity to a higher chance of getting breast cancer – and worse outcomes in women who have already been diagnosed.

But these findings make the post-diagnosis picture clearer, said lead researcher Dr. Joseph Sparano, associate chairman of medical oncology at the Montefiore Einstein Center for Cancer Care in the Bronx, New York.

“Obesity seemed to carry a higher risk of breast cancer recurrence and death – even in women who were healthy at the time that they were diagnosed, and despite the fact that they received the best available chemotherapy and hormone therapy,” he said.

Data for the new study came from trials sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of women with stage I, II and III breast cancer who were given standardized treatment, with drug doses adjusted based on weight.

Out of close to 5,000 women treated for cancer, about one-third were obese and another one-third were overweight.

Over the next eight years, one in four women had their cancer come back and 891 died – including 695 from breast cancer.

Sparano and his colleagues found that compared to women of normal weight, obese women were 40 percent more likely to have a breast cancer recurrence over the study period and 69 percent more likely to die from breast cancer or any other cause.

Even among overweight but not obese women, there was also a general trend toward a higher risk of recurrence and death with increasing weight, according to findings published Monday in the journal Cancer.

The link was especially strong for women with estrogen receptor positive cancer, which accounts for two-thirds of breast cancers.

But weight wasn’t clearly linked to breast cancer outcomes for women with other types of cancer not dependent on estrogen for growth.

Estrogen, insulin, or something else?

Although the new study can’t prove that extra weight and fat have a direct impact on certain breast cancers, Sparano said that was “biologically plausible.”

“There may be factors that are fueling the growth of the estrogen receptor positive tumors,” he said – such as estrogen itself. Women carrying extra fat have been shown to make more estrogen.

In addition, Sparano added, “Insulin levels are known to be higher in patients who are obese because they develop insulin resistance… (and) insulin can stimulate the growth of breast cancer cells.”

Dr. Massimo Cristofanilli, head of medical oncology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, said it’s possible that anti-estrogen drugs such as tamoxifen can’t do enough to overcome the extra-high estrogen levels in obese women.

“Maybe obese women require much longer treatment because their risk of recurrence remains over time,” Cristofanilli, who has studied the link between weight and breast cancer outcomes but wasn’t involved in the new study, told Reuters Health.

According to the NCI, one in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point, but the risks vary greatly over the course of a woman’s life.

Whether women with the disease can improve their long-term outlook by losing weight hasn’t been proven, researchers said.

“The highest priority is just getting through the chemotherapy if chemotherapy is necessary and taking their endocrine therapy,” Sparano told Reuters Health.

“But for those who are obese or overweight, there may be additional benefits that one can achieve through diet and through weight reduction that may produce a reduction in the risk of recurrence that’s just as significant as the reduction that they get from the standard therapies,” he said.

Cristofanilli agreed on the benefits of weight loss and said “it’s never too late” for women to become healthier through diet and other lifestyle changes, even after a cancer diagnosis.

On August 22 WebMD reported, “West Nile virus now has killed 47 people and infected an estimated 95,000 in 38 states in what is almost certain to be the worst West Nile outbreak since the virus hit the U.S. in 1999.”

“The peak of West Nile virus epidemics usually occurs in mid-August, but it takes a couple of weeks for people to get sick, go to the doctor and get reported,” said Dr. Lyle Petersen, the director of the CDC’s Vector-Borne Infectious Disease Division. “Thus we expect many more cases to occur.”

Petersen said that the reason for the high number of cases this year is unclear, but that unusually warm weather could have fostered favorable conditions for the disease’s transfer to humans.

According to CNN.com here are five things you need to know about West Nile virus:

1. Most mosquitoes do not carry West Nile.

In areas where mosquitoes carry the virus, only about one in 500 mosquitoes is infected, according to the Connecticut Mosquito Management Program.

2. Most people bit by West Nile mosquitoes do not get sick.

About 80% of people bit by a mosquito infected with the West Nile virus do not get sick, according to the CDC. About 20% will have relatively mild symptoms, such as fever, headache and vomiting. Symptoms can last for as short as a few days or as long as a few weeks. About one in 150 people infected with West Nile will develop a severe illness, which can include paralysis, coma or death.

3. You can help prevent West Nile with the “four Ds.”

Use mosquito repellent with DEET

Dress in long pants and long sleeves

Be especially careful at dusk and dawn

Drain any standing water, such as kiddie pools or bird fountains, where mosquitoes like to breed.

4. People over 50 are most vulnerable.

Those older than 50 are the most likely to become severely ill with West Nile and should take special care to avoid mosquitoes, according to the CDC.

5. Seek medical care immediately if you have severe headaches or confusion.

If you develop symptoms of severe West Nile virus illness, such as unusually severe headaches or confusion, seek medical attention immediately, according to the CDC. Severe illness usually requires hospitalization.

The following are actual reviews posted by hCG 1234 customers on Walmart.com’s website. To read all of the reviews posted by Walmart.com customers about hCG 1234 go to walmart.com/reviews.

Good Product

8/20/2012

My husband decided to try it since he found out his daughter had lost 19 pounds with this type of diet (not using the Walmart product but a different one.)

He wanted to lose 26 pounds so searching through the web we came across this Walamrt product.

We decided to try and I started the diet with him (mainly for support because I only wanted to lose 11 pounds) we have finished phase one and two and my husband lost 13 pounds in 3 weeks and I lost 8 pounds. The program is easy to follow but you really need to change your eating habits and follow the instructions, if you do it then IT WORKS. We ordered 2 bottles which were delivered promptly. We are now on phase 3 , still controlling our food intake. I am done but my husband plans to do a second round to reach his goal. I would recommend this product to anyone who has some extra pounds to shed and who is in good health to follow a diet program.

Great for Diabetes

8/19/2012

I am a diabetic and have been told constantly by my doctor to lose weight after she uped my medication. So I went crazy in the gym, cut out fast food, but yet no weight lost. So I decided to look for an aid and came across HCG 1234. This product is great but at the same time teaches you to eat the right foods and make good food choices. What I did in 3 months, only took me 2 weeks on HCG 1234. This is Day 16 for me and I have lost 9 lbs already (2 cheat days). Now I know the product says you lose 1-2 lbs a day but being a diabetic (and still taking my medication), you have to intake more than 500 calories a day. I am using 800-1200 diet depending on my activity for the day. On average, I have lost .5 lbs a day. When just doing diet & exercise, I would do that in a week. Being that I have to lose more weight, I have to do several rounds but that’s okay. I’m up for the challenge. Also, this product has great customer service. The website is very informational, providing recipes and video tips. You can check out their FB page and ask questions, get support, and keep them updated on your progress. They also have a hotline where you can call to get advice. I tend to message them on FB almost every other day. It just keeps me on track and keeps me focus.

Awesome!!!

8/19/2012

IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CANT WAIT TO GET ANOTHER ONE!

Great…Great…Great

8/9/2012

I am a female, 5’7″ and my start weight was 245. In one week I am down to 236!!!! I am excited and motivated now more then ever. Thats 9 pounds! I have tried every product out there and I watched some youtube videos and saw some amazing weight loss from people. My goal weight to start is 170lbs. Wish me luck.. You have to try this.

Not everyone enjoys exercise but most people feel inspired when they hear their favorite song! Music with a regular beat helps keep you engaged and active throughout your workout session.

Pacing and Cadence

In rhythmic exercise such as jogging, running or cycling, listening to music helps you estimate and maintain a certain cadence or pace. Each sport has an optimum cadence for energy efficiency and speed. Music will help you maintain your target cadence or pace for a specific length of time. Music with steady rhythm helps you perform rhythmic movements with greater coordination and balance.

Preferred Music

If you listen to music you like while you work out you will probably work out longer or faster, covering a greater overall distance and burning more calories. According to a February 2010 report in the journal “Perceptual and Motor Skills,” listening to preferred music pushed study participants to go further overall during a high-intensity cycle workout.

Motivation and Mood

Music has the ability to affect your mood and motivation during exercise. Peppy, exciting music will give you an energy boost and put you in the mood to exercise and keep going once you start to feel tired. Music that means something to you gives you an emotional connection to the exercise activity or the people you workout with. Equally, music that irritates you can act as a demotivating factor and worsen your mood during exercise.

Exercise and the hCG diet protocol

Exercise is permitted while on the hCG diet but not required. If you choose to exercise, keep your intensity level mild to moderate. While on the hCG diet you can participate in the following types of exercise: walking, jogging, yoga, pilates, light resistance training, dancing, aerobics, etc. Be sure to keep your intensity level low, and if you feel light headed slow down. Consult with your physician before starting any exercise or diet program.

Implications

From serving as a strong motivator to encourage exercise and from helping individuals recover from motor coordination injuries and conditions, music’s effect on exercise is far-reaching and important. With the convenience of iPods and MP3 players and with the access to myriad kinds of music thanks to websites like iTunes, creating personalized selections of music has never been easier, making exercise more motivating than ever.

When you’re working long hours on the computer, running from one business lunch to the next and traveling nonstop, your diet and fitness goals sometimes get derailed in ways you don’t even think about. By running from one event to another and having days packed with meetings you may be unintentionally harming your health and keeping on extra weight. Here are 9 ways you may be sabotaging yourself without even realizing it.

Bad Habit #1: Eating Low Fat Foods

Foods that are labeled low-fat or fat free can save you a few calories, but they do this by replacing fat with sugar and other chemicals which are WORSE than fat. They digest more quickly, leave you with a sugar crash and leave you feeling hungry faster. The best approach is to eat with nutrition in mind. Remember: A low-fat donut is still a donut!

Bad Habit #2: Skipping Meals

Your metabolism slows down, and you’re much more likely to overeat later in the day. The American Journal of Epidemiology found that people who cut out breakfast were 4.5 times more likely to be obese. Rev up your metabolism by eating small portions of nutritious foods throughout the day – for breakfast, 1 cup of greek yogurt & berries are a fast, nutritious option. If you’re on the go, snack on a handful of pistachios or edamame. These will keep you full and satiated for about 200 calories.

Bad Habit #3: Eating Too Quickly

I’m definitely a victim of this. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone for sushi at 8 and was finished by 8:05! I had to train myself away from this habit. A study from the University of Rhode Island found that those who ate slowly ate 1/3 less than those who ate fast. Your stomach takes 20 minutes to tell your brain that you’re full. Every meal should take you at least 20 minutes to finish. Try and chew your food 20 times in each bite and pace yourself.

Bad Habit #4: Watching TV while you eat

When you watch television, you’re not fully concentrating on anything else that you’re doing, and this includes eating. Researchers at the University of Birmingham found that people who were distracted while eating a meal ate more snack food afterwards than those who were paying attention – most didn’t even remember all of what they ate!! Statistics also show you eat 5-10 times more when you eat while watching TV. If you’re going to snack while you watch television, snack on cut veggies or portion 2 cups of air pop popcorn and don’t refill. Frozen grapes are also great; it takes about 20 minutes to eat a cup.

Bad Habit #5: Taking Big Bites

I do this and it works: cut your food into smaller pieces, use a smaller fork or spoon. You increase enjoyment and take longer to eat, which increases your satisfaction. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that people who took large bites of food consumed 52% more calories in one sitting than those who took small bites and chewed longer!

Bad Habit #6: Having Overweight Friends

If your friends or spouse overeat you’re 57% more likely to overeat too, according to research from the New England Journal of Medicine. I am NOT suggesting you cut ties with your overweight friends! Instead of going out to eat, plan social activities. You’ll have more fun together and burn calories instead of packing them on.

Bad Habit #7: Avoiding the Scale

Accountability is one of the best things you can do for your body, and a scale will help keep you on track. Stepping on a scale every other day keeps your goals and accomplishments fresh in your mind. Other ways of staying accountable? Smart phone apps that can help you track your diet programs, like Lose It, and tracking your calories burned with a heart rate monitor like Polar’s FT4, or a pedometer that counts the amount of steps you’re walking.

Bad Habit #8: Eating “Filler Foods” at Restaurants

Filler foods can be anything from the complimentary breadbasket they put on the table, to the pound of mashed potatoes that come with your skinless chicken breast. Here’s the thing, those ”Filler items” are very cheap and it’s disguised as either a value added at the beginning or a generous entrée. The reality is, it’s neither! Those things can add an additional 500 calories to your meal without even blinking. Ask your server if you can get cut veggies instead of the bread and a side salad instead of the potatoes or rice. Trust me; your waistline will thank you!

Bad Habit #9: Not Seeking Health & Fitness Advice

By you reading this article you’re going in the right direction. Reading about exercise and diet makes you more likely to improve your exercise and diet. Researchers in Canada sent diet and exercise advice to more than 1,000 people. Those that read the advice began eating better and working more exercise into their daily life. A little reading goes a long way!

——————————————————————————–

Many people believe that eating healthy is expensive and time consuming, but that’s not necessarily the case. The reality is that healthy eating can be cheap and quick too.

Difficult economic times do not mean that we have to sacrifice our health — or budget – when it comes to food. With careful planning and a little effort, healthy eating can fit into a budget, but preparation and planning are key.

Here are six easy tips for economic, healthful eats:

1. Local, seasonal fruits and veggies can often be less expensive than what’s in the typical grocery store. Buying produce by the bag instead of individually is cheaper and puts more fruits and veggies in front of you to eat at home.

2. Protein such as chicken, fish, pork and beef are not cheap, but there are some ways to save a buck. Buy the large, family packs, and when you get home place them in separate bags for each meal. Bulk packs are always cheaper than smaller packs. Don’t buy preseasoned or marinated meat or fish, because that means paying for someone to do that for you. Season, rub and marinate the cuts yourself for an economical and healthier way to add flavor to your food — that way you control the amount of salt, fat and sugar, which is always better.

3. Make extra portions of what you prepare for dinner to pack for the kids’ lunches the next day — saves time and money.

4. Check the store circulars and websites for coupons to save some cash

5. Buy generic items and store brands, which are often less expensive yet identical to name brands

6. Try to have a meatless meal at least one day a week. It is a recommendation that I have always made to my clients, regardless of their economic situation. Legumes (beans and such) , grains and soy-based products are inexpensive and healthy.

My philosophy is to purchase foods that are as close to their natural state as possible, which means the least processed, with no added sugar, fat and salt.
